LAKE GREENING PROGRAMME (2010-11) |

Government of Andhra Pradesh vide G.O.Ms.No. 157, MA&UD(I1) Department, dt. 6-4-2010 have constituted Lake Protection Committee for preservation and protection of lakes in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority area with Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA as the Chairman of the Committee. |

A special drive for protection of 21 lakes has launched on 22-4-2010, (Earth Day) at Durgam Cheruvu. |

As part of special drive for protection of 21 lakes, HMDA was launched Lake Greening on 25-05-2010. During this year greening activities will be taken up in Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar Lakes in about 400 Acres with 1.50 Lakh Plants. Based on nature of site, suitable species for water-logging such as Barringtonia (Neeti Kanuga), Terminalia arjuna (Yerumaddi), Pongamia glabra (Kanuga), Anthocephalus cadamba (Kadamba) will be planted. All these species withstand water inundation, especially Barringtonia (Neeti Kanuga) which can withstand prolonged inundation. |
