Say no to Plastic

On 1st of May, 2010 the Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA declared the area of Hussain Sagar and its surroundings as Plastic Free Zone. A series of measures are taken in this regard.

All the existing vendors in these locations (viz., NTR Gardens, Secretariat Road, Opposite to I-Max, Necklace Road, Lumbini Park, Eat Street, Jal Vihar, Sanjeevaiah Park etc) started using paper plates, paper / cloth bags and paper cups in place of plastic.

Appropriate locations are being selected to place additional dust bins on the Necklace Road and other places of BPP area.

Cleaning of Hussain Sagar Lake

There are 5 nalas, which are continuously flowing into Hussain Sagar, carrying sewerage from the residential localities of catchment area and also industrial effluents from Sanatnagar, Kukatpally & other areas. These nalas deposit lot of sediments and also bring floating materials like plastic bottles, plastic bags and lot of other house hold articles. The BPP/HMDA has taken up massive task of cleaning the floating material including water hyacinth on a continuous basis.

For this purpose a very high quality floating Truxor machine (from Switzerland) and 2 DUC’s (Dredger Utility Craft) machines are placed along with the other boats with large number of laborers for making Hussain Sagar free from floating material.
